The Bureau of Land Management is pleased to invite your participation in a Restoration Forum to be held in Kanab, Utah on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 18 and 19, 2015.

The forum is designed to provide the opportunity to share information and ideas about vegetation restoration in Southern Utah.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015 – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

The forum will convene at 9:00 am at the Kanab Public Library, located at 374 North Main Street. The agenda will include panel discussions on the following four broad questions:

  1. What is vegetation restoration?
  2. Why do vegetation restoration?
  3. How should restoration efforts be prioritized?
  4. What restoration methodologies are most suited to Southern Utah

Panelists for the four panel discussions will include:

  • Hal Gordon, Economist, West National Technology Support Center, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Portland, OR

  • Shane Green, Rangeland Management Specialist, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Utah State Office, Salt Lake City, UT

  • Mary O’Brien, Utah Forests Program Director, Grand Canyon Trust, Moab, UT

  • Adrienne Pilmanis, Botanist, Bureau of Land Management, Utah State Office, Salt Lake City, UT

  • Karen Prentice, Healthy Lands Initiative Coordinator, Bureau of Land Management, Washington DC

  • Bruce Roundy, Plant and Wildlife Sciences Faculty, Brigham Young University, Provo, UT

  • Jason Vernon, Habitat Restoration Coordinator, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Salt Lake City, UT


Wednesday, August 19, 2015 8:45 am – 5:00 pm

All participants will go on a field trip to visit various restoration sites. Tour participants should plan to gather at the BLM Headquarters building, located at 669 South Highway 89A in Kanab at 8:45 am for an on-time departure at 9:00 am. Transportation will NOT BE provided. Participants should bring their own transportation; high-clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. Car pools can be arranged on an ad hoc basis.

Participants should dress for hot weather and consider the need for a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. There will be some walking but not extensive hiking involved.

Participants should bring water and a brown bag lunch.


Please note that lunch will not be provided on either day.
